On Sept. 12, the comedian officially joined NBC’s iconic sketch comedy series, which prompted reports about his past. In addition to hiring Gillis, Saturday Night Live also announced Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang as new cast members. Both comedians further diversify the popular series, and fans celebrated the announcement online, just two weeks after Leslie Jones officially left the show....

That did not take long. Just hours after today’s launch of the new iPad, jailbreaker MuscleNerd posted (via iFans) screenshots of what he claimed is a jailbroken third-generation iPad. Do not get too excited, because MuscleNerd warned there is “still lots of work to do.” Therefore, the jailbreak is far from prime time. New photos from the San Jose Mercury News today reveal additional details about Apple’s new campus, slated to be completed sometime in either 2015 or 2016. A scale model of the planned building was shown to The Mercury News by Apple’s CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, located at an office on the 175-acre site of Apple’s planned campus. According to Oppenheimer: As Apple prepares for a final vote before the Cupertino City Council on the development of the campus on October 15th, final plans and details are coming together and are mostly in place....

With watchOS 8, Apple has announced some new features for Apple Watch users, including a new Mindfulness app, photo sharing, and more. Usually, every new watchOS comes with new watch faces, but this year, Apple has only shown one new watch face — Portraits. However, one of the WWDC 2021 sessions revealed that there’s another new watch face that hasn’t been announced by Apple, this one called “World Timer.” During the “What’s New in UIKit” session that highlights the latest updates and enhancements to the iOS user interface framework, Apple shows a screenshot of the Watch app in one of the demos....

The team over at iFixit is back today with the teardown of the Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P. If the premium unibody aluminium construction of the handset had not already made it clear, the tear down from iFixit definitely does: the Nexus 6P is a very tough phone to repair. Accessing the innards of the phone itself was a challenge for iFixit, and they note that opening the device without breaking the rear camera glass is a very tough job — if not impossible....

Apple is opening three new retail stores this weekend including one new store near Venice, Italy and two stores in the US. We originally reported in June that the new stores were coming alongside others in China, Italy and the US as new retail chief Angela Ahrendts implements organizational restructuring for Apple retail. A pair of new studies highlighted by a CBS News report indicate that smartwatches such as the Apple Watch can help detect COVID-19 before the onset of symptoms or a positive test. The studies, separately undertaken by Mount Sinai Health System in New York and Stanford University in California, are giving experts hope that the Apple Watch can help “play a vital role in stemming the pandemic and other communicable diseases....

Did you know 62% of iOS devices experienced a failure of some sort over the last three months compared to just 47% of Android devices. Hence, a study carried out by a security company known as “Blancco Technology” who claims that the failure rate of iOS is 62%, compared to 47% of Android as we told. In that failure rate, it is taken into account virtually everything is out of the ordinary, such as application crashes, failures to make connections to a server, overheating while using an application, unexpected reboots, and so on....

The preview build has been bumped to V81C, is available for the Nexus 5 the second-generation Nexus 7 only. Of course, it’s not suggested to use the builds for anything other than development purposes, as it is still incomplete contains bugs that need to be worked out. The Nexus 5 has been showing up everywhere — at the FCC, in a bar, and even on popular Apple forum MacRumors. The above photo, along with some commentary, was posted up by MacRumors member weespeed.
